Ephesians 6:1-9 – All of these things need to be done with a common central theme. That theme is Jesus, and bringing glory to God.

In the New Testament the strict jews would fast twice each week. Jesus spoke against this attitude and this kind of fasting, instead he brought the focus back to God.

Exodus 31:15 – The fourth commandment was to keep the sabbath holy. It was something that had severe repercussions.

The danger here is to live after a form and not have an actual changed life filled and changing as a result of the Holy Spirit living in our lives.

Here in Ephesians we can clearly see that there is a heart desire and relationship that is necessary to have a life centered around Christ. A sound and healthy heart brings good results, while a malnourished unhealthy heart doesn’t.

The condition of the heart hinges on two things.

  1. Does God own this heart? Or do I own it? Has my heart been surrendered and committed to God?
  2. What is the heart fed and nourished with?

Hopefully each of us have a heart that has been committed to God… but the second part is also super important. What are we feeding our hearts and how are we taking care of our hearts?

1 John 1, 2 Peter 1:4-21 – It is clear here who owned the hearts of both John and Peter. It is also clear what they were feeding their hearts on.

Ephesians 3:14-21 – Paul was praying for others, that they would experience what Paul himself had experienced and knew to be true for his own life.
