God is a lot smaller and impersonal to people today than he should be. God is neither small nor impersonal.
God told Moses in Exodus 3, that “I am that I am.” God is eternal, the self existing one.
When we look at the names of God we start to get an idea of who he is.
- God is all powerful.
- God needs nothing outside of himself.
- God is the perfection of love.
- God is the standard for all other holiness.
Water is hydrogen and oxygen, you can pull them apart, but water doesn’t exist if you take it apart. God is the same way. You can’t take his mercy, love, perfection, power, etc., apart. God is all of these things together.
Genesis 1:1 – How is it that God being a spirit created a physical world? How is it that God who is limitless created things that have limits? These are incredible questions about God and his creation.
The earth is incredible beautiful. It is easy for us to see the finger prints of God all over creation. Imagine how it must have been before creation. God is the master of creativity.
Acts 1:26, Hebrews 11 – It is only faith that can cross the gap between what we know and believing in God.
There is one place in the entire universe where the eternal intersects with the physical – our hearts. The only way to experience God is with faith in our hearts.
1 John 3:1 – The most amazing thing about God isn’t the physical things that we can see that he has created. It is that this God wants to be our father. He calls us to be sons and daughters of his. Sons and daughters of an all mighty God.
John 16:15 – Jesus says that he has access to all the storehouse, wealth, resources of heaven. He tells us that he is going to make these things available to us, his children.
2 Peter 1:3 – Everything we need for our physical and spiritual life is available to us. If God is our father what can we expect from him?
Life requires a lot. We tend to dump a lot of time and energy into the things of just living. Yet too often we forget that it is from God that all the things that we really need come.
God knows what we need and he knows when we need it. When God is our father he is enabling us. Life is a challenge that is too big for us to handle on our own.
Philippians 4:15 – God will be there when we need him.
God used something that David was already used to a sling… yet it wasn’t the tool that he used, it was that he had God on their side.
James tells us that if we need wisdom and we ask him for it, God will give us wisdom. We have constant access to God, there are no limits on time, there are no limits to his accounts. We can come because of what we need. We can come because he loves us.
We need to think about our concept of God. Whenever God is small and man is large the relationship is skewed.
Having a proper perspective and outlook of who God is, is simply incredible and it changes everything…
