Doors that God Opened

At times we may wonder if things have gotten out of God’s control. Does He know what I am going through? Is He involved?

The goal of this message is to make sure we realize that God is in control. If there are doors in our lives that should be opened, or closed, God will open or close those doors.

Revelation 3, Psalm 78 – The Pslamist writes about Israels experience in the desert. God had done so much for the Children of Israel, opening the doors of heaven.

Acts 5 – The authorities locked Peter & John up, but an angel of the Lord came an opened the door and said “go… go and preach.”

Acts 12:3 – Again Peter was in jail. Again the Lord opened the door and lead him out.

Acts 16 – Paul is trying to discerned where God is leading him next. It seems that there is a closed door to the places that Paul was thinking of Going. God sent him a vision, opened the door, to go to Macedonia to preach.

2 Corinthians 2:12 – God opened a door for Paul to preach.

Luke 11 – The story of a friend who comes at midnight. He doesn’t have bread for his guests so he goes and asks a friend. His friend says, “no, I’m in bed.” The friend persists, and gets the bread. We are to be persistent in our asking for the Holy Spirit.

Doors that God Closed

Genesis – The ark door. Noah build the ark, God brought the animals, and God closed the door.

Matthew 25 – The story of the 10 virgins. Jesus talks about those who didn’t take the opportunity to prepare their lamps and when they had gone to get oil the returned and knocked on the door and the door remained closed. “They that were ready went in…”

Doors that God has Made us in Charge of

God gives us responsibility for some doors too.

Matthew 5:6 – When you pray, enter your closet, shut the door and pray to your Father in heaven. Your Father who sees what we do in secret will reward openly.

Revelation 3:20 – Jesus stands at the door and knocks. Jesus wants to come into our lives, but he isn’t going to force his way in. He wants us to open that door.

If we follow Christs advice in doing well at taking care of the doors that he has put us in charge of, shutting the door of distractions and opening the door to commune with Christ. When we do this we are more prepared to deal with the other doors in our lives that God opens and shuts.

John 10:9 – Jesus is the door. It is only through Jesus that we can be saved.

God does see. He does care. If He opens and closes doors in your life it is because it is better for you that way.
