This sermon – Faith Is – was originally preached 2012.11.25 by Leon Yoder.
Passages used: Hebrews 11, Mark 9, Mathew 17, Romans 10, Psalm 78.
With their faith they pleased God.
To approach God and to be pleasing to Him we must believe that He exists and that He rewards sincere seekers.
The list here in Hebrews 11 isn’t finished. The writer said he didn’t have time to include all the ones he knew of. It can include us as well. This list is “The Lambs Book of Life.”
A life lived for God is worth it. No matter what.
Faith is a strong confidence – a settled conviction – of the truth of something. It affects the way we live. Our lives are based on it.
Faith is required as we ask for things. As we pray to our Father in heaven.
Faith is not virtual reality. Faith is not magic. Faith is not superstition. Faith is not the power of positive thinking. Faith is not a remote control for managing God’s power. It is a path of access to God. Faith is first a belief, a confidence, a certainty, a trust, that acts. God is, and He rewards those who seek Him diligently.
“Mustard seed faith” may be very small… but it is very real. There is a connection with and a desire for God. There is a belief in God and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. There is potential for Growth. The “mustard seed faith” keeps its eyes on Jesus. This faith also seeks God – daily – often.
Faith is more than just hearing it involves a response.
Faith is born when we believe. And it grows as we walk with God and learn and exercise it.
