What drove Paul to serve? His life was one of obedience, but it wasn’t a have-to obedience. He had caught God’s vision & purpose for the world.
Three motivations that drove Paul were:
- The fear of God, not the scared kind of fear but one of reverence and awe, worship and respect. He had a glimpse of the heart of God and understood it. He had an intense desire to fulfill God’s will.
- The love of God inspired and motivated Paul. It compelled him. The love of God narrows our focus to the things that matter. Three proofs of the love of God are: he died for all on the cross, he rose again so we serve a living God, and he transforms the believer’s life.
- The call of God on the road to Damascus transformed his life. Paul was called to help sinful man be reconciled to God.
God has called us to help others be reconciled to Him as well. We need to represent God to the people around us. Paul knew he had been called and knew why he was called – to serve others. Paul lived a life of simple, sincere, steadfast focus.
Are we willing to go beyond what we’re naturally comfortable with to serve? Are we available? Serving is not just for the ordained, everyone is called in some way to serve.
