The brain is a computer, as well as a chemical factory. Scientists and doctors have a limited understanding of how all the circuits and chemicals of the brain work together.
The apostle Paul is reminding the church at Corinth of how he had come to them a number of years earlier. He had determined to not come to them with excellent speech or with lots of wisdom. Paul had a burden for this church at Corinth. There is something deeper than man’s wisdom.
Tonight we want to look at three men that Paul talks about. They were around way back then, and they are still around today.
- Natural Man – The soul-ish part of man. He is earthly, sensual, and devilish. The natural man is governed by his five senses. The natural man finds himself in a box, he is limited to his five senses. This knowledge of the natural man is temporary. It is only here for a time, it will come to naught.
- Spiritual Man – We must begin to think differently if there is going to be a transformation of the mind. The spiritual man gains the sense of the Spirit. He has the ability to move outside of those four walls, he is governed by faith. His mind is controlled not only with the sensory but also by the Spirit. If the spiritual man is going to grow and develop we must spend time with the spiritual.
- Carnal Man – This has to do with the bodily part of man. The carnality, unregenerate part of man. The thought patterns of this man are childishly. There is nothing wrong with being a baby, but with time the Christian should mature and grow in the faith. Our Heavenly Father wants us to move beyond carnality and thinking as children think. What does flesh want?
Which man do we answer to? By God’s grace, we want to be more responsive to the Spiritual Man. May God help all of us to continue to grow and mature.
