A Physical Thirst
Judges 15:16-20 – God provided water for Samson when he was desperately thirsty.
Our bodies need water. Water is a solvent, which means that it dissolves other things, in our body this means that water carries all kinds of things to all parts of our body. A healthy body needs to have a correct balance of water inside and outside of each cell. Our bodies are largely water… we can live without food for a long time, but we can’t live without water. Without water we will die in a couple of days.
Genesis – Lot chose the valley because it was green, there was a good source of water in the valley.
While the Children of Israel were in the dessert there were multiple times that God told Moses to strike or speak to a rock and God would provide a source of water for the Children of Israel.
Deuteronomy – God is remembered as the one who “brought forth water out of the rock, causing water to rain down like rivers.”
A Spiritual Thirst
John 4:6-14 – Jesus and his disciples were going through Samaria. The disciples went into town and Jesus waited for them by the well. Jesus and the woman who came to draw water had a conversation about “a well of water springing up to everlasting life.”
Jesus saw a thirsty soul. Someone who was confused about what she really needed. We don’t know what her name is, or what her childhood had been like. But we do know that her pursuits hadn’t satisfied her. She was thirsty. As the conversation continued Jesus kindly and carefully led this Samaritan lady to the truth and the water of life.
1 Corinthians, Revelation 22 – In the future when we are in the presence of God and are finally delivered from all the things that are sinfully inspired, we will be able to drink more deeply than we’ve ever been able to here on earth.
John 7 – The Spirit of God is to be like a fountain, a life giving, fruit bearing, fountain welling up within us.
Psalm – Are we thirsty? Do we long for God as the deer pants for the water?
Keep on… reading the word. Obeying the word. Repenting when convicted… even if we find our current place in life to be a dry place, we can find the life giving water we need if we are willing to keep on.
