The news cycle today is pretty short. The resurrection of Jesus is never old news.
Acts, Romans – The disciples continually were preaching about Jesus being raised from the dead. The fact of the resurrection is told in Scripture, it is believable to those who are open to it.
Psalm 16:10 – Jesus resurrection was prophesied in the Old Testament.
The resurrection was an astonishing and miraculous event. The terrific power that was portrayed is incredible – all the forces of hell could not keep Jesus in that grave.
Jesus was dead – past tense. He was buried – past tense. But He is alive forevermore, both now in the present and in the future.
Romans 10:9 – The importance of believing in the resurrection is very clear here. It is a necessary part of salvation.
Without the resurrection, all that the scripture says about Jesus and his sacrifice is a solution that is not available to us.
1 Corinthians 15:1-34 – Many do not believe the resurrection. They’ve heard the stories… but they would rather think about other things on Easter. To them it is just too incredible.
The process of the resurrection for many is as complicated and difficult to think about as the creation story as laid out in Genesis.
It was difficult for a lot of the disciples to come to believe in the resurrection as well. They did come to believe… but it wasn’t an easy place to come to.
Romans 4:23-25, Romans 5:10 – There is a life to live from the moment of accepting our savior and risen Lord.
Romans 7:1-25 – We cannot live a good and holy life in and of ourselves. Even if we are good citizens, we have hearts and minds that have selfishness that is unsurrendered. Only Christ can bring that change to those who surrender to him.
Ephesians 2:1-10, 2 Peter 1:1-11
