John 3:34-36 – The Holy Spirit is associated with the power to live differently than we would live without the Holy Spirit. The Holy Sprit was within Jesus “without measure.” The Holy Spirit will also be given to us in sufficient abundance that it will pour out.

John 7:37-39 – The Holy Spirit is available for you and me “without measure.” We are the only ones who can hinder the amount that we have in our lives.

Ephesians 5:18 – Be filled with the Spirit. The context tells us that we should be controlled by the Spirit… not with wine. Life tomorrow will be a lot the same as last week, but for the Christian there is always the newness of walking in the Spirit.

Two Things That Hinder Our Being Filled With The Spirit

  1. 1 John – Not dealing with the sin in our lives hinders our being filled with the Spirit. We do not intentionally go out and plan to sin. If we do we are deciding to put God back on the throne of our hearts. God wants to be at the center of our lives and on the throne. We need to be a clean vessel.
  2. We must be willing to be used in whatever way God wants. A lot of the things God calls us to are scary, we often would rather let someone else do it. We often just want to fit in.

God can and will use you and me to build his kingdom in ways that we can never orchestrate. We need to be aware of the direction of the Spirit of God in our lives.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

John 16:7-15 – The Holy Spirit is a power source within us to change us and convict us to be more and more like Christ. More of an instrument that He can use. We’ve all been given a conscience but it needs to be sensitive and available for the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. The Holy Spirit is serious about showing us our sin. We cannot come to Jesus by ourselves, we need to conviction of the Spirit. Conversion is a miracle. Jesus is the only way. No man comes to the Father unless the Holy Spirit draws him.

John 3:1-15, Ephesians 5, Hebrews 12:10 – The Holy Spirit can change us. Do we want to be different 5 years from now than we are tonight? Where are we going to go? Have we reached the place we want to go spiritually? Do we want to become a person that God can use in a greater way? Our normal condition should be that we are filled with the Holy Spirit, filled to overflowing. Is there a difference when the trials of life come? What is our response, what shows up in our lives?

Romans 15:13 – The Holy Spirit empowers us. How is he power of God flowing out of you? Do people see you or do they see something different? How does the Holy Spirit give you ability to stand for Him?

Our lives have something that the world is looking for, something that the world needs. Are we ready to be used in that work?

God has great things to do through people who are willing to mind the Spirit. God wants to use your gifts. Are you willing to be used?
