This morning we’ll begin with a brief summary of the resurrection story.
The disciples were so sure that Jesus was the Messiah. They had followed Jesus, they saw the lame walk, the blind have their sight restored, they saw Jesus living a perfect and holy life. Peter said emphatically, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
The women going to the tomb met a young man in a white robe. “Don’t be afraid… Jesus has risen!” This was the beginning of the first Easter celebration.
The joy that comes when we become a follow of Jesus can cool over time. The churches in Revelation experienced this some. When we stay in a mode of surrender to Christ we can continue to have that joy!
Romans 1:4 – The resurrection is more than just about joy. It is about the power of God and His sovereignty over death. Jesus resurrection is a great turning of the tide, a powerful deliverance for the blood washed saint.
Ephesians 2:1, Romans 6:3-10, 1 Corinthians 15:14-18, Romans 4:22-25 – The victory of Easter. We know the resurrection is so essential to our salvation.
Romans 5:10 – God’s purpose wasn’t just to forgive our sins and then leave us floundering unable to live a Christian life.
1 John 2:1, Hebrews 7:25 – What promises! Jesus is alive and is at the right hand of the Father interceding for each of His children.
1 John 5:11 – God has given us life, life in the Son. This life comes from a risen savior!
The resurrection offers us hope. Hope here and now. Hope for the future.
John 14 – Jesus told His disciples that He would be killed… and that He would be raised the third day. This is a comfort for us, life doesn’t end at the grave!
Revelation 19:11-16 – The world is still under the sway of the evil one, but the first Easter morning was the beginning of the end for the devil and for sin.
