This sermon – The Beauty of the Moment – was originally preached 2013.09.08 by Jerrill Schrock.

Scriptures used: Mathew 6:24-34, Luke 22:44, Malachi 1:9, 2 Peter 2:22.

The Beauty of the Moment

Jesus wasn’t just rambling and telling stories. He was speaking with divine power and wisdom. What does he mean here? Jesus it speaking here about worry. He is saying that we shouldn’t worry about tomorrow. Not that we shouldn’t think at all about tomorrow. If there was “no thought” what would that look like? No, Jesus is talking specifically about worry and the future. First and foremost we see that we are to serve God, above all. Jesus wants us to “sing our part” and not try to be the choir director. He wants us to trust him with the music and the directing.

Jesus didn’t run away from God the Father when he experienced anguish in the garden. Instead He drew nearer to the Father. As long as we are seeking first the Kingdom of God the concern and anguish that we are feeling can be good. If we are directing that concern and anguish to God.

What Is The Moment?

Relationships with God.

Our time with God is a very important moment. It sets the tone for the rest of our moments with others. How can we make a spiritual moment worthwhile? It is important to really be involved. Don’t just go through the motions, but really be involved with your time with God. How many times does God want to talk to me like he did through Malachi. Is God pleased with the attention that we are giving to Him? Are we bringing our best to God?

Relationships with our Families.

We are involved in lots of things. Life is busy. How can we then bring good moments, a good atmosphere into our family relationships – moments that are worthwhile? It is often harder to separate work from family these days. Do we bring our office into our homes? Do we try to multitask with our families? Is multitasking hurting your relationships with your family? Sometimes we need to figure out what works. Have a plan to prioritize the things that need to be prioritized. What do your children see when they look at you? Do they see your phone and your email being more important than them? Create spots for moments in your schedule, make them sacred, and don’t let other things get in the way.

Conclusion

How can we make sure that we can make the most of the moments that come up in our days/lives.

  • Give the first/best part of our day to God. Implore God’s will and way in your lives before you start the day.
  • Trust God and His divine purpose.
  • Fellowship and worship with fellow believers.
  • Praise God. If we aren’t willing to praise God we are missing out.
  • Worry Not.
