Rest is stopping work in order to regain strength and to be refreshed. Our human tendency is to wait to rest until our bodies force us to rest.
Galatians 6:9 – Paul wasn’t dump, he knew that people get tired, he got tired to. Rest when you need to but continue doing good even when you are weary.
Genesis 2:2-3 – On the 7th day of creation God ended his work and he rested. Did God rest because he was tired? No. Even though he had just created the universe in 6 days. God was setting a precedent for his people.
Exodus 16:23 – The manna was given six days of the week. The people were supposed to gather twice what they needed on the sixth day for the sabbath day that would follow.
Jeremiah 34:12 – The children of Israel had not kept their year of jubilee, the people didn’t understand how much they needed it.
Psalm 46 – The word Selah is in the Old Testament. A lot of people believe that this word means to “rest” in the middle of the song.
The things that we do, everything that we do should be focused on honoring God.
Work is important, but rest is also very important.
