If you could only see my commander and chief, you would not hesitate to enlist in his army. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Jesus the Creator
Genesis 1, Colossians 1:15-18
If we want to make something, or fix something, there is generally a lot of effort involved. Jesus spoke and created the world, the stars, the sun, the moon, the universe… Not only did God make the stars, he also put them in the exact perfect place.
The detail in the world that God created is incredible. God finished all these things and said, “it is good!”
The crown of creation? Man. God got his hands dirty when he created us, he formed us out of the dust of the earth. We are the only part of creation that got some of God’s very breath.
Jesus the Friend of Man
Hosea
Jesus knew what was coming down the road even in the garden of Eden. Jesus knew what the price would be for him personally.
Throughout the Old Testament we see God reaching out and working to draw his people to him. He continually took them back even when they consciously walked away from him. In Hosea we see how God seeks after those who are his… God has claimed us for himself. He jealously seeks to be in a close relationship with us.
Jesus as a Holy God
Isaiah 6:1-8
This is something that is under attack in our society and even in some churches today. God is a holy God.
Jesus took the form of a human, but at the same time is fully God. There is nothing that we can do to bridge the incredible expanse between who we are and our lack of holiness and who God is and his holiness.
The only person who can (and did) bridge the gap between our holiness and God’s holiness is Jesus.
The whole earth is full of God’s glory. Do we see it?
Jesus Our Savior
We need someone to bridge the gap between us and God. That person can only be found in Jesus.
Can you feel what Jesus felt as he went through the separation from God’s presence? Jesus did it for you…
Jesus knew that he had to build this bridge. He knew what the price was. He knew better than any of us what it would feel like to be crucified, he created our bodies. Yet he submitted to the will of the Father.
Jesus made a personal relationship with him possible. The bridge has been made!
Jesus the Redeemer
1 Peter 3:18
We could never pay our way to freedom. Jesus, bridging the gap makes it possible for us to experience freedom from the power of sin.
God, our redeemer can take even the darkest days that come along and make them into incredible things.
Jesus the Returning Bridegroom
John 14:1-14, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
If you watch a young couple as they prepare for their wedding, there is a lot of anticipation for the wedding day.
Jesus says that he is willing to pay the price for us, the church, his bride… it is up to us if we are going to accept that cup or not.
Jesus also says that he is not sitting back and waiting for the day he can come to get his bride. He is preparing a place for us. He will come to claim those who are his own.
