The Attributes of a godly Woman
The Lord loves his people. We delight in our children and the Lord takes delight in His children.
God could have chosen a different way to bring salvation to the earth. He didn’t though, God chose to use Mary, a mother… to bring the savior into the World.
1 Peter 3:1-6
We may be focusing on Mothers this morning but a lot of these verses could apply equally well to fathers, sisters and brothers.
Titus 2
These verses are a scriptural background for what we want to talk about this morning. The intent is definitely not to offend or overwhelm mothers here.
Rather we want to be encouraged that God’s plan here will work. Brothers, be an encouragement to your sisters. Be aware of what God’s plan is.
Chaste Conduct
When your conduct is closely observed. Let it be clear. Pure. Without spot.
A countenance that reflects the God who created it. There is no reason for shame. You are a daughter of the King.
As mothers and sisters (and all of us) we are children of the king. The value that comes to us as children of the king, there is no reason to go after the things that the enemy has to offer.
This value is real. It comes from knowing and being known of the king.
The world has way to many drama queens and kings. Instead let us be gracious. Humble. Kind.
This is something we have been taught. We do well to keep this on. Teaching our children and holding on. The virtue of a meek and quiet spirit is under attack. The meek and quiet spirit is a quality of the christian.
Reverent, Righteous Behavior
Galatians 5:22
These attributes don’t just happen. It is a high calling. A calling that is beyond our reach. With the aid of the Holy Spirit we can find these fruits to be very real in our own lives.
Godly Mothers will advise. They will give cautions. Mothers have a special intuition. They see dangers where others don’t see them. We do well to respect and listen to the cautions thrown out by Mothers.
Sober and Industrious – Not Drunkards
These two things are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Don’t live a life that is lazy and without purpose. Find purpose and fulfillment in serving others.
Modest Apparel
Godly women and mothers will encourage apparel that covers and conceals. Apparel that projects discretion and purity. Apparel that projects the dignity that God intends for every creature made in his image.
Sisters, look to godly women as examples and for pointers in how you should dress.
Subject and Obedient to Husbands
Husband’s love your wives – as Christ loved the church.
As Christ loves the church and as the church loves Christ in return, there is the example showing how to build a longterm and lasting relationship.
There are extremes on both ends of the spectrum here.
Sarah called Abraham “lord.” Not because he was perfect. Rather because she respected and accepted God’s role for her. She also accepted and respected God’s role for Abraham.
Being a godly daughter is an excellent place to start learning these things.
Reach Out and Help Others
Teach. Lead by example. Be willing to take responsibility in faithful and loving service.
Sisters, encouraging others is a beautiful thing. (Same for brothers.)
Brother’s, we have a responsibility to help our Mother’s. Protecting them from the pressures of an ungodly society.
Proverbs 31, Mathew 14:44, Psalm 18
Finding a wife, a godly woman is finding a treasure. It is worth treasuring and taking care of and protecting.
