A message from the book of Colossians 3:16-4:6.

Our attention must be on Jesus Christ and the Word. By recognizing Jesus and his death and resurrection our old life is dead and buried… we are raised with Christ.

We are told to live out our faith within our homes, to grow up to maturity. When we are at home we tend to let down our guard and drop the pretenses that we may have… even there we are called to live out the Christ life.

We need to word of Christ to enrich us so that we are able to lead a faithful life in our work, at home and everywhere. If we are Christ’s followers all of what we do is a reflection upon our relationship with him.

Galatians 3:28 – Males and females are equal in Christ. But he isn’t retracting the roles that he says apply to both the husband and the wife.

Wives should, and do have a voice. Your opinions and thoughts are valuable, your husband should listen to you. This is also true for husbands. Wrong methods of manipulation should not be used from either side.

Christian love is not based on merit. We are to love our wives (or husbands) even when they have shortcomings and are not all that they should be. We are to accept our spouses just as they are, appreciating their good qualities along with the bad ones.

Acceptance doesn’t mean that we don’t want our spouse to grow, but we aid them most in their growth if we love them and care for them.

Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases God.

Fathers, don’t scold your children constantly and put them down. Make sure that they know that they are valuable.

Parents live out the gospel in front of and towards your children. Assure your children that they are loved and appreciated for who they are, not who they can or should be. Obedience should not be a condition to your love.

This thing of parenting is more than we can do on our own. We can teach and train them, but they will need to reach out to Christ who is the only one who can change their heart.

We are to give a good effort for our boss at all times. We should give ourselves totally to the task at hand, the job may seem trivial and unimportant, but we need to do our best. God is watching and he knows exactly what we are doing.

We need to have respect for every person. Everyone is a bearer of the image of God. We must be friendly and respectful to everyone that we meet.

Every last person is to be honored and respected. We need to always be gracious and kind.

Wherever we find ourselves on a given day or at a given time… life is to be lived for and in the name of Christ. We are his representatives and we must live with his power.

Our wives, husbands, children and all those we meet need us to live for Christ.
