Text: John 17:1-5

No one understands us like Jesus. When we join Him in prayer we can experience love and acceptance. We can never wrap our minds around the depth of His love.

Jesus is still praying for us. he invites us to pray with Him.

Jesus prays for God’s glory. He prays for it to be revealed to everyone. It is a prayer that we would experience “eternal life” (v. 3 …)

Jesus was motivated by love. God’s love will endure forever.

We can know this love now. We will experience it more fully in Heaven.

Verses 1-5…

Jesus spoke these words after the time in the upper room before the crucifixion. In chapter 14 they had left the upper room…

Jesus knew what was coming, and so He turns to the Father in prayer.

What an open relationship between the Son and the Father!

Jesus was about to face the biggest crisis of His life.

He begins His prayer with praise for the Father.

…Glory… (used 8 times in these verses)

”A prayer of praise or worship” greek “Doxa”— shining, radiant glory.

Jesus tells the Father how He longed to return. V.11

Man is created for the purpose of enjoying God and glorifying Him.

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”. — John Piper

Our old man and Satan both work to keep us from that.

Jesus prayed also for us. He wants us to let our (His) light shine. The glory is for God… let Jesus shine through you this week.
