Let’s look at God’s ownership of our bodies.
In the beginning Satan lied to Adam and Even by telling them that God was with-holding good things from them. It is the same lie that Satan uses on us today as well.
In what sense does “God own us?” He created us!
God also gave us a free will. God didn’t make us to be a robot. God made us in his image and he isn’t a robot. How would we be able to actually worship God if we didn’t have free will? Would it be worship if we didn’t choose to do it?
Mankind has lost his identity as God’s person.
Exodus 12:12-20 – It was through the blood of the lamb on the doorpost that God recognized which of the houses to pass over. In each house hold with the blood on the door, there was a price paid for the first born.
Numbers 3:11-13 – God chose the Levites to replace his “First Born.” We see that God has a special people that he owns.
1 Peter 2:9 – We are a chosen people, a peculiar people, a property of God, purchased and possessed by God.
Acts 20:28, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Peter 1:18-19
We have been bought by the blood that Jesus spilled while he was hanging on the cross. We are God’s possession. We are owned by God. It is this purchase that makes our bodies the temple of God.
This purchase price is incredible and should signify to us the value that God has placed on having a relationship with us.
We become the possession of Jesus now, not just in eternity or after we die. Our lives are going to be changed as we come to understand this better. Too many people only believe that salvation is only something that affects the future, after we die – although that is true… it begins now, as we actively pursue following Jesus in a personal way.
Eternal life begins now. Jesus came and lived an exemplary life for us to follow. We need to live the life that Jesus lived before we can make the decisions and choices that Jesus would make. We choose to do what we do because of who we are, what our identity is.
You’re not going to be able to play the game if you aren’t willing to live the life. There are so many things that are going to have to make a part of our ever day lives if we are going to live like Jesus did.
Jesus went to the cross knowing who he was. He went as himself, he had been becoming the Jesus who was ready to go to the cross for 33 years prior to that moment.
The devil is really good at conspiracies. He wants to stop christians from being effective. When young people are inspired to give up the things of this world and walk with Jesus… Satan loses out. Satan isn’t a fan of Christians, but he is even less of a fan of a zealous Christian.
The only thing that pays for our sins is the blood of Jesus Christ. No thing that we can do can ever pay for even one of our sins.
Isaiah 64:6-7 – This is a verse that is often taken out of context today. If we are following Jesus with a proper motive our righteousness is seen as a beautiful thing.
Hebrews 13:21, Philippians, Revelations 19 – If we are doing righteous deeds in the name of Jesus, it is beautiful. It is definitely not a filthy odor before God.
Jesus says that he came to give us life, an abundant life. This isn’t just a reference of what happens to us after we die, rather it is meant to show up in our lives here and now on this earth.
Romans 6:12, Philippians 3:13 – The call of Paul here is a call to service. A call to follow Christ.
We can be pleasing to God. The things that we do in Christ name aren’t an odor before God. It is pleasing to God and he loves to assist us as we do the things that he would have us to.
We have a choice to be servants of Jesus Christ!
