” Why climb mount Everest? Because it is there.” – George Mallory
Isaiah 2:3 – There are spiritual mountains to climb. Our desire this weekend is to go to the mountain, meet God and allow Him to teach us and then to walk in His paths.
Matthew 28:16-20 – This is the great commission. We need to be careful that we don’t miss verses 16 and 17. We need to be sure that we are meeting God on the mountain before we go out into the world.
The Call to Worship
Jesus was calling his people to come to the mountain and worship and then go out and work in the field.
What is the significance of worship? People were created to worship. We will worship. The church is called to worship.
Many times we think that the mission of the church is to go to other places in the world and teach people about God. We need to be sure we don’t miss the importance of worship.
“Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate.” —John Piper
Ezra 3 – Christian service is also preceded by worship. There are many accounts in scripture that emphasize this point. The first thing that the people in Ezra got back to Jerusalem was to build an alter and reestablish a worshipful relationship with God.
2 Chronicles 20 – Jehoshaphat had his priorities in order. The first thing he did was hold a prayer meeting. He focused on God before he was focusing on the work that needed to be done. Who did he send out to face the army then? A bunch of singers!
Our spiritual warfare would be much more effective if we were to spend more time focusing on God and worshipping him and who he is. Until we know what it is to worship God face to face we aren’t prepared to work for him.
We are going to spend eternity worshipping God.
Who is the recipient of our worship now?
We all worship something. Worship isn’t something that just happens on Sunday mornings. What takes the highest priority in your life? This is a really big indicator of who or what we are worshiping.
