What is a saint? Are you and I saints?
Isaiah 6:1-7 – Even our greatest efforts fall far short of God’s Holy and perfect standard.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13 – A summary of God’s will and desire for his people. God expects the same of us today. At times it seems as if those who call themselves christians have very little evidence of a righteous life.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 – Sometimes we don’t seem to be too concerned about the things that make such a big difference in our hearts. God knows our thoughts and intentions, we can’t hide anything from God.
1 Corinthians 11:28 – We need to be the one who is searching our hearts and looking to see how we are doing.
There is one thing that we can be sure about, that the blood of Christ is more than adequate to take care of any sin problems we have. God has made provision for us to be able take care of things even while we are still here on earth.
Romans 1:18-32 – Be careful what you approve of.
Saint is usually used to describe someone of unusual godly character. Usually its someone who has been around for a while and who has made a big impact on a lot of people.
2 Corinthians 2:1 – Paul addresses his readers as “sanctified” – called to be saints.
Titus 2:14, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – We are not our own, we’ve been bought with a price.
This is what a saint is. Someone who has been sanctified and who is under the lordship of Jesus.
Saints are not perfect. Even our best deeds at times are stained with imperfect motives or performance.
Galatians 5:17 – Sin is sin and such conduct is unbecoming to saints. Sinning is breaking God’s law. Scripture says that when we break one sin we are breaking all of God’s law.
Galatians 3:10 – God’s standard is obedience, not performance. God is also more concerned about our obedience than our understanding. We need to be obedient to the truth we know first of all.
Sin separates us from God. Some sins do have larger consequences here on earth than others do.
1 Timothy 1:15, Romans 8:13, Colossians 3:5 – Duty without desire produces drudgery, a chore.
Hebrews 9:22 – The only way to enjoy freedom and forgiveness is only through the blood of Christ.
James 4 – Ungodliness – living life with no, or very little thought about God. There are so many people in this world who are nice and good to deal with… they may even go to Church, but they live their lives as if God doesn’t exist.
Too often we don’t think we need God as much when things are going well as we do when we are sick, or when we need money, or any of a number of other things.
Psalm 131:1-4 – God is aware of us and he sees our ever deed and hears our every word.
Philippians 4:6, 1 Peter – Jesus invites us to cast our cares upon him. He cares about us. He cares for us. He wants to share our cares with us.
Luke 18:11, 1 Samuel 2:7 – When we condemn others we easily fall victim to a self righteous attitude. Pride is something that is so easy to see in others, but is often really difficult to see in ourselves. All that we are, all that we have is a gift from God.
Proverbs 3:27 – Don’t withhold good from people if it is within your power to help them. Defend those who don’t have the power to stick up for themselves.
Colossians 3:21 – Don’t be so proud that you can’t say “I’m sorry.” You’ll find that people almost always think better of you instead of worse of you if you are honest about your short comings.
Romans 14:4 – We often become critical of others. Do we continually find fault with others? Those who have different opinions than we do?
Have you been to Jesus with your sin problem? Have you accepted his death and blood for your sins? Only the blood of Christ can take care of our sin problem.
