Truths about God
- Verse 10 – God is greater than any opposition. God is bigger and greater than any foe. He will come with power and might. God will come against the foe. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
- Verse 28 – God is the creator of the ends of the earth and He holds all things together. It is one thing to see all the things God created, it is another to see that He created us and has a plan and a reason for us to be here.
- Verse 18-22 – God is greater than man’s idols. Idols come in many forms. They can be in our houses, our hearts – anything that is above God is an idol. The grasshopper perspective idolizes and loves and adores things of the earth. The eagle perspective beholds God and knows and sees that God is greater, better, and able than any idol.
- Verse 13 – God is wiser than all of man’s wisdom. Who taught God? No one counsels God? God is wiser than all things and all people. God’s wisdom is beyond our comprehension. The grasshopper perspective has a pretty high opinion of his thoughts or even the thoughts of other men. The eagle’s perspective beholds the all wise God and recognize Him and His wisdom.
- Verse 15-17, 22 – God is greater than nations and kings and all the doings of man. All the nations are nothing. God isn’t saying that He isn’t interested in nations and rulers and man, He is, but God is the judge of man. The grasshopper pursues his own goals and his little plans. He is very insignificant compared to God. The eagle’s perspective is one of humility and he bows before God.
- Verse 11 – God is a compassionate shepherd. Jesus never forsakes. The grasshopper perspective tends to resent the shepherd, they don’t care for the diet. Sometimes they see the enemy as their buddies. The eagle’s perspective beholds and appreciates the compassionate shepherd.
- Verse 27 – God is the source of strength and life. Even the youth can grow weary, but God has life and strength for those who are willing to wait and trust in the Lord – those who look to Jesus. The grasshopper perspective goes on his own strength and that is all they have. They don’t go very far and have a quite limited view. They may accomplish a lot in their view, or in the eyes of other grasshoppers. The eagle’s perspective finds strength in God. They soar and are touched and strengthened by God himself.
God wants us to have the perspective of an eagle – He wants us to be heralds of who is and what He does.
