Usually, when we hear the words “The First World War,” we immediately think of the First World War, which began in 1914 with the assassination of Prince Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the throne. This assassination led to multiple countries becoming involved and declaring war on each other.
In Genesis 13, we read of the separation of Lot and Abram; Lot, who chose the fertile plain of the Jordan Valley, and Abram taking what was left. Lot pitched his tents toward Sodom. He probably didn’t plan to actually live in Sodom, but eventually, he moved into the city.
The war in Genesis 14 took place thirty-five hundred years before WWI in 1914. In Genesis 14, five local kings had been paying tribute to four foreign kings. They paid tribute for 12 years, but in the 13th year, they rebelled and would not pay. Lot is now fighting alongside the people of the plain in their battles. The end result was that the four kings took a lot of plunder, they captured a lot of people, and the rest of the people fled to the mountains. Lot was also captured.
Abram pursued Lot with 318 servants and overtook the army, and brought Lot safely back. Even with the differences Abram and Lot had between each other, Abram loved his nephew. God won the victory.
