You’ve heard the saying “the devil is in the details.” This means that the idea sounds simple, but the success of the plan depends on the little plans of the details.
This morning we’ll be looking at how God cares about, arranges, and notices the details.
The God Who Cares About Details
2 Kings 6 – The story of the floating ax head. It was a borrowed ax, the head flew off while they were chopping trees for this new project. An ax was something that was quite valuable.
There is more recorded in the Bible about this happening than about the actual building project! God is active in our lives, He is in the details of our lives and He cares about the things that matter to us.
There are lots of things that matter to us. Little things. Big things. Things that should probably be little, but they look big to us. God cares about all of these things.
The God Who Arranges Details
God is active and engaged. He has been actively involved throughout history. To say otherwise is to deny that God is who He says He is, and that He has shown himself to be.
We’ve got numerous stories in the Bible that show God’s involvement. The story of Joseph. The story of Esther.
There are things that show us God is involved today too, just a few months ago there were the missionaries that escaped in Haiti. So many details worked out leading up to and during their escape.
Mark 10:46-52 – The story of blind Bartimaeus. He was warned to be quiet, but he cried out even louder. Jesus called him to come to Him, and Jesus healed him. How many days do you think Bartimaeus sat there begging? There is a lot that we don’t know about him, but we do know that the God of details would get within shouting distance of each other on this one day.
The God Who Notices Details
Matthew 10:30 – Don’t be afraid… God knows what is going on, He knows exactly how many hairs you have on your head. Not only is this an expression of God’s all-knowing, but also His love and His care for us.
Psalm 56:8 – Tears, tiny little, salty drops of waters. God knows when we are sad. Many times tears come in the night when others can’t see us. Tears are private things, and we don’t often want people to see our tears. The God who cares about us sees and cares about our tears.
We are people made of flesh and blood. We are designed for relationships. We experience pain. God cares, even when it seems like things are unraveling. Sometimes it’s hard to see that, especially in the middle of the night, but there is always a sunrise for God’s children.
Heavenly Details
John 20:27, Revelation 5:6 – Thomas was struggling with believing that Jesus had really risen from the dead. Jesus appeared to the disciples, and He invited Thomas to see and touch.
Jesus, in His resurrected and glorified body still bore the marks of His crucifixion. Small, but powerful details that remind us of His care, and sacrifice for us.
