We often look at life and wonder how we’re doing. How are your dreams? Are they on track? If your childhood dreams haven’t worked out, let’s take a look and see if we can reevaluate some of these things.
Many times the things that we think will bring happiness, money, homes, wives, husbands, etc. indeed do not fulfill us and bring us happiness. God wants us to be happy, fulfilled people, the problem comes when we take it into our own hands and try to “perform” and “make it happen” on our own terms.
Psalm 106:13-15 – The Children of Israel were begging for things and God gave them these things, with them came “leanness of soul.” When we unwittingly turn to idolatry (what we hold on to becomes our master and lord) we will have fear in our lives.
We can’t easily break free and serve boldly because we often fear the unknown, and we’re scared that we might lose the comforts we have. What if we have nothing to lose? What if we were to wholeheartedly jump into the Word, and into the work of the Kingdom of God?
Judges 6 – Gideon was a very normal guy in a very difficult situation. The Lord saw a strength and faith in Gideon. Gideon ended up with 300 men to go up against a much, much larger force of Midianites. The victory was had, and God got all of the glory.
C. T. Studd – Charles was known for his athletic skills. Charles had two brothers, after graduating from college one of the brothers fell deathly ill. Charles was faced with the question, what is fame, what is all the stuff worth in light of eternity. His response to God’s call in his life was to go serve in China under Hudson Taylor.
God wants to take our desire for exploration and even our seeking of things that are somewhat risky and use that for the work of His Kingdom. It isn’t safe to follow God in an all-out way, but it can be, it is so rewarding.
Are we living in our comfort zone or are we stepping outside of it and living for the gain of Heaven?
