James 4:14 – We aren’t here for very long, even for those who live many years it is a short time.
Knowing Jesus gives us a bright and very different perspective about brother Wesley’s passing. Because of Jesus, it is possible in grief and loss to have a great and settled hope.
John 3:16 – Jesus came into a messy world. A sin-sick and dying world it was. Crippled by the fall and oppressed by the devil it was full of conflict and commotion. Jesus saw all of it.
Jesus didn’t come as a tourist or a reporter. He wasn’t a bystander, he was a servant to these people. He had great compassion for people, he wept for them and prayed for them. He was moved to act and reach out. He healed the sick. He fed the hungry. He delivered people of demons. He even raised people to life.
Jesus also touched the souls of people. He called people to repent from their sins and turn to God. John tells us that “as many as received Jesus, to them he gave the right to become God’s children.”
Were those people in Jesus’ day loved or cared about any more than we are? It’s been a couple of thousand years since Jesus’ time on earth. Many people who were alive during Jesus’ day didn’t see Jesus either. They were reached by missionaries and heard the Gospel.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Nothing! We don’t literally see Jesus here among us, but He is here in the presence of His Spirit. Nothing can separate us from His love, He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
