When we talk about technology we can say that we are living through a revolution. Technology has made huge changes in all aspects of our lives. Revolutions are unsettling, disruptive times.
Most Americans now spend a fair amount of time working in front of a screen. A lot of us have a smart phone in our pockets. We have witnessed huge achievements in healthcare, sciences, agriculture, etc related to technology.
Some people are elated with all these changes, but it isn’t all for the positive, there are a lot of things to be concerned about as well.
It is time for us to sit up and pay attention and be moved to action. It is for us to discern and embrace technology where appropriate and reject it where appropriate.
Revelation 1-3 – John wants to reveal Jesus to these churches. He addresses each church individually and then wraps up each one the same way, “whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
In some sense we all have the instrument of hearing, but just hearing doesn’t mean understanding and taking to heart. This is something that happens through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Ezekiel says that “they have eyes to see and ears to hear, but they do not see and they do not hear.” This was true of the people in Ezekiels day, it was true in Johns day, it is true in our world today.
Part of living in this Information Age means having more content and information available to us. There is a lot to see, a lot to hear, it is almost overwhelming.
Learning to stop listening. Learning to look and listen to what does matter.
