Companies have their own set of values; People have their own set values. Jesus gave us a unique set of values. These are the values we are to learn in discipleship. Do we live them?
- Disciples of Jesus value being right with God over being right with men.
If you want to follow Jesus, you will have to put a higher value on your relationship with God over relationships with anyone else. His judgement is much more serious.
Whatever difficulty you have to go through because you are a follower of God, remember that God is aware and will reward you in the end.
- Disciples of Jesus value their relationship with Jesus over conflict-free relationships.
We should avoid unnecessary conflict with people, but sometimes our commitment to Jesus requires us to be in conflict with family or friends.
- Disciples of Jesus value following Jesus example over avoiding difficulty and suffering.
The context of Jesus teaching here (Matthew 16) is his rebuke of Peter for telling Him not to go to the cross. The true disciple of Jesus will take up his cross and follow his Master.
- Disciples of Jesus value spiritual investments over earthly possessions.
This (Luke 14) follows the parable of the great banquet.
- Disciples of Jesus value eternal life over “living the dream”.
Jesus is not saying that all disciples need to be martyrs, rather that they must die to self. They must be willing to give up temporal things for things that matter in eternity.

Do our choices actually line up with our stated values?
