How we feel is not determined by our circumstances, but by what we focus on. Internal attitudes are more important that external circumstances.
This means that we tend to see what we’re looking for. Including in other people.
I think there are two kinds of people— complainers and worshippers. They may have the same circumstances, but they have two different views.
How do worshippers do it?
They aren’t born this way. They choose to look for something to praise God about.
Acts 16:23-30
We tend to get so caught up in our circumstances that we forget the big picture.
How do we zoom out? We worship.
Worshipping removes the focus from our circumstances and puts it back on God.
Is it easy to live a life of worship?
Not always… It’s not easy for anyone.
When things go well it is easy… but worship should be our attitude always. It shows that our worship is not based on our circumstances.
As you worship, your life with God (not necessarily your circumstances) gets better.
The byproduct of worship is witness. By determining to worship you get the byproduct for free!
There are people out there that are desperate for someone to care about them and love them. If you live a life of worship, it will give you opportunity to share with these people longing for God.
The byproduct of worship is witness.
Sometimes we struggle with believing that we can do this. Maybe you don’t feel like you have the talent or the skills to worship and witness.
It wasn’t about how talented Paul and Silas were. We don’t have to be amazing singers or speakers. God wants to use each of us with what He has given us.
Did you know that research indicates that a person talks to himself about 50,000 times a day? Most of that is negative. In this, we often let everything that is wrong with us keep us from thinking about everything that is great with God.
As you let God use you, you will get better. God will continue to use you as you allow Him.
Philippians 4:8
Maybe you are a pessimist. Turn your focus to God. Focus on these eight things. Stop focusing on what is wrong with our circumstances and focus on the goodness of God.
Consider keeping a gratitude journal. You’d be surprised at the difference it makes.
