We’ll be looking at Judges 6 this morning.
The people of God were hiding, they were hopeless against the Midianites who were oppressing them.
God had a message for Gideon and he shares it with him. It is a message of God’s presence.
God’s Presence
Gideon really needed some assurance that God was present with him. Gideon thought that he had seen the Lord and that because he had seen him face to face would die!
We are never alone. There are lots of verses about God being with us.
- God was with Moses
- God was with David
- God was with the Disciples
- God was with Stephen
- God was Paul
Hebrews 13:5 – God tells us that he will never leave or forsake us!
Purpose
God had a plan and a purpose for Gideon. Gideon couldn’t believe that God had a plan for “little old him!”
Jeremiah 29:11 – God knows the plans that he has for us. Plans to give us a future and a hope.
In Provers and Psalms we see over and over again that God has a plan and wants to help us.
How do we determine God’s purpose for our lives?
- Scriptures – The Bible.
- The Spirit – The Holy Spirit lives in and directs the believer.
- Situations – God opens and closes doors for us.
- Spiritual people – It is such a blessing to have other brothers and sisters give counsel in our lives.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-1 – When you don’t know what to do with counsel you’re getting we can look at these verses were we are directly called to, in whatever situation we are in, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks.”
Peace
This story of Gideon is the first time that the name of Jesus “Jehovah Shalom” – the God of Peace was used.
God is our peace.
Jesus tells us that he gives us peace. Not the same peace that the world tries to offer, but a real peace that keeps the heart and mind through Jesus Christ.
We all need a greater sense of God’s presence, His purpose and His peace in our lives.
