Romans 6:1-23
Jesus offering himself on the cross was something that he did for us. His suffering, death and shedding of blood was effective in allowing us to have a changed relationship with God.
As justified and sanctified believes we can stand in the hope that comes from God. We no longer have to come short of the glory of God all the time.
Grace that super abundantly much more abounds.
In a sense Romans 6 is a gateway to chapter 8.
Paul reminds us that when it comes to living victoriously we can be “more than conquerors.” Victorious Christian living is not an illusion. It isn’t that we are free from the impulse to sin, but we can overcome our sinful impulses.
God has dealt, not only with sins committed, but also with the issue of sin as a ruling power in us that would ensnare and enslave us under the bondage of sin.
Why does Paul talk about the burial of Jesus? Well, burial of a body confirms that death has indeed occurred. Christs death and our death to sin is not something that was imagined, it was a real death!
Our old man was crucified with him. We were buried with him. We are raised with him. And we shall be with him in the future!
Four Reasons Why We Should Not Sin
- Definitely not, sinning is inconsistent with what took place in the economy of God when we were baptized with Jesus Christ.
- You need not sin because sin’s dominion has been broken.
- You must not sin because it would make sin your blaster again.
- You better not sin because it will end in death.
