Just as there were Herod’s and Pharisees and scoffers and doubters in the days of Jesus and following… so we too have many things fighting for our attention today. We need an unfaltering focus on our Savior.
Nehemiah 6 – The walls are up, the gates are about ready to go in and there seems to be a last ditch effort to change things. “They thought to do me mischief…” Their mission was larger than just to compromise Nehemiah, they were looking to compromise the work that he was doing.
We walk on the water, we fulfill our purposes when our God is in it. God sent deliverance to his people through his own peoples faithfulness to him.
What were the distractions posed by Sanballat?
It is when we are making progress in our Christian life that the devil will launch an attack.
Sometimes it is the call to truth and obedience that will bring us to a place where we can do the things that we are called to. When we are faced with doubts we need to be as Nehemiah and ask God to “strengthen my hand.”
Nehemiah didn’t loose focus of the task at hand. Neither did Peter drown in the sea… they both kept their focus where it should be, on God. While their focus may have faltered, it continually came back to God.
We are all called to have a similar focus. Called to faithfully run the race before us, one step at a time. It isn’t an easy task, it’ll require more than what we can offer on our own. We are so blessed to have Jesus, our Lord and Master who is walking the way with us. He wants us to move forward, He wants us to be successful in his work.
