Would you say that you are a steward?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – we are all stewards. Stewards of everything.
When we think of a steward the main thing that we are concerned with is whether or not they are a trustworthy and faithful steward.
Genesis 15 – Abraham had a serious situation. He needed to find a life companion for his son.
Genesis 39 – Joseph was a steward. He was in charge of everything for Potiphar.
John 4:24 – Jesus was also a good steward. Jesus knew that he was on earth with a job to do, even at a young age he told his parents that he “needed to be about his Father’s business.”
Genesis 1 – From the very beginning God clearly gave man the responsibility to be a steward of his creation.
What all are we stewards of?
1 Peter 4, Romans 12:6 – We are stewards of the gifts and grace that God has freely given us. We all have gifts that God has given us, we are stewards of this manifold grace.
1 Corinthians 4, Luke 18 – Luke tells us that when we give money to those in need we will receive a reward in heaven. This is something of a mystery to us.
1 John 1:9 – Forgiveness – as we forgive others we will receive forgiveness from God. Confessing brings cleansing.
John 12:24 – The dying of the seed has to happen before it can sprout to life.
Romans 8:1-4 – Life in the Spirit. We all know (at least to some extent) how gravity affects us. We also know that an airplane can overcome this affect. Similarly the Spirit can change everything for us.
Jesus told his disciples often that the way to be great is to be a servant. To surrender your will for the will of others. This isn’t how things seem to work in our world, but in God’s kingdom serving others is how we become great. This is a mystery, but we are stewards of this mystery.
We are stewards of the children that God has blessed us with. They are probably the single biggest way we will impact the world around us.
Hebrews 3:5 – We are stewards of life’s experiences. Moses chose to suffer with the people of God rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin that could have been his. Moses didn’t know what all he was signing up for.
Deuteronomy 30 – Moses isn’t going into the land, the people he’s lead are going in, but Moses isn’t. Even now he is faithful to warn these people not to make the same mistake that he had.
God brings experiences into our lives. He helps us through them and then we are stewards of that experience. We need to be willing and ready to share from our experiences to comfort and guide those that God puts into our lives.
We don’t choose what we are stewards of, but we are stewards none the less of the experiences that God brings into our lives.
We are all stewards. The only question is whether we are faithful stewards or not.
