This sermon – The Revelation from Jesus Christ – was originally preached 2014.02.16 by Leon Yoder.
Revelation 1:1-20
We know that this book was written by John. John was on the small island of Patmos off the coast of Greece. He was there because he was a banished criminal. It was there that he had visions which he put down on paper.
The message here is from Jesus! In the last chapter Jesus makes it clear that it is him who brought this revelation.
The word Revelation literally means to “remove a cover,” or “pull back a curtain” or “to reveal.”
This is a book of prophecy.
This book is written to “the churches.” Specifically John addresses the letter to the seven churches in Asia. The whole book, including the seven letters to the seven local churches, was addressed to all of the early church and to us today.
The message of this book, we are told, is faithful and true.
Revelation 21:5
This message is to be a blessing to the readers and hearers of this book.
Revelation 1:3
There are a number of callings throughout the entire book. Calls to repent. Calls to return to the first love. And others.
The warnings seem to go unheeded. A rebellion is described during these end times and it is very great.
God is the one who brought the world into being. He is the creator. The world began just as He planned for it to begin. God is also the one who will bring all things to their conclusion. The world will end just as He plans for it to.
Romans 8:35-39
God will prevail. The Christian is safe. The Christian will find grace for victory.
There is also a great restoration described in Revelation. For those that are faithful the glory of heaven will become a reality! A reality that includes being in God’s presence for all of eternity.
Revelation 22:12-21
