This sermon – Life Lessons – was originally preached 2013.10.27 by Leon Yoder.
Scriptures used: Mathew 16:24, Mark 12:41, Romans 12.
Lesson 1 – Cross bearing
The way this expression is often used we see it as having a burden or responsibility to carry alone. It is heavy and cannot be easily changed. There are crosses that we must bear that “other folks” don’t necessarily have to. Is this what Jesus meant when he talked about cross bearing?
The cross we bear is denial of self. Paul talked about his thorn in the flesh. Paul asked God to be delivered from it. God said, “my grace is sufficient for thee.” Our selfish desires and ambitions are the things that we deny. Daily.
Lesson 2 – All on the Altar
God looks at the quality of our offerings instead of the quantity of our offerings. Our usefulness for God’s kingdom begins when we lay out lives on the altar.
